A PERFORMANCE INSTALLATION, ALONGSIDE A SERIES OF DIFFERENT INTERVENTIONS IN THE SITE OF THE MUSEUM, AS ARTIST IN RESIDENCE FOR BOTH SPILL AND COLCHESTER AND IPSWICH MUSEUMS.
A performance installation,

A piece exploring things being taken out of their natural environment….

Cast adrift…

Lost at sea,

Journeys,

Forgotten places,

Chartering into the merciless realm of

Placelessness

Maps,

Unmappable spaces,

Empty spaces,

Terra Nulllius: Nobody’s land!

For one night only,

We bring the museum alive,

Creating a cacophony of light, sound and sight,

Multiple voices, and

Narratives of migration entwine

In a living installation.

Mixing ritual performance objects and installation, to create a pulsating aural and visual architecture, inspired from real human stories.

Shabnam Shabazi is an interdisciplinary ‘artivist,’ a maker and enabler of creative projects. Working with object, video/digital media; text, performance, collage and installation. Participation and creating platforms to give voice to important issues are at the heart of Shabnam’s practice. Her work is autobiographical and archival. Exploring notions of home, place, displacement, identity and the body. Recent and ongoing research includes exploring the idea of the body as a house and investigating stories from ourselves, stories from within. The interstices and intersections between art forms and cultures animate her practice. Committed to a ’without walls’ approach. Interested in site-specific work and subverting use of existing spaces.
